With this double volume (B & C), which includes 154 entries written by 19 collaborators, most of which are extensive in the form of biographical essays (as in the introductory A volume of 2022), the New Biographical Dictionary of Byzantium/NBDP is evolving into a collective work and is planned to be completed with subsequent volumes soon, with contributions written by specialized researchers and lexicographers across historical, philological, archaeological, theological, and other scientific fields.

Aside from the biographies of emperors, patriarchs, and other ecclesiastical officials, military figures, and claimants to the Byzantine throne, as well as significant administrative figures, the work also includes the biographies of many prominent spiritual figures, historiographers-chronographers, iconographers (compilers of saints' lives), geographers and travelers/archaeologists, ecclesiastical scholars and commentators on ecclesiastical and philosophical texts, jurists, literary figures, poets, and musicians/hymnographers, scientists, architects, painters/iconographers, and other leading artists from all Byzantine periods.

All entries are richly documented and referenced, while the detailed lexicon of the work is required in all volumes along with the general abbreviations used and their occasional supplements.
