Description

The publication includes the proceedings of the Conference Folk Art: New Findings – New Interpretations, which was organized in 2006 by the Benaki Museum in collaboration with the leading Greek museums and research institutions specializing in the study and promotion of the modern Greek heritage.

The Conference also aimed to honor Popi Zora, the long-time Director of the Museum of Greek Folk Art, for her significant contribution to the preservation, study, and promotion of Greek folk art.

It includes forty-three studies that illuminate aspects of embroidery, weaving, garments, stone carving, architecture, woodcarving, shipbuilding, ceramics, painting, silversmithing, metallurgy, jewelry, and shadow theater.

The above analyses are complemented by a special section that highlights theoretical reflections on the approach to and study of modern Greek traditional creation.
