I would like to briefly describe how I see, envision, and think about the function of libraries in our schools. The term "school" is limiting, as this library will be broadly open to the local community.
It will be a space that informs, entertains, socializes, and updates not only the students but also the residents of the wider area. In its space, there will certainly be new information technologies, so that the interested party can have, along with internet access, easy access to the registered books and additionally to the entire book production.
However, the library will also be a space of culture, since movies will be screened, lectures by authors will take place, and presentations of work by students or groups of students, discussions, and so on will be held.
In cooperation with local bookstores and with the municipality or community, larger events can be organized by the children, or they can take initiatives and engage with topics concerning their area.
Personally, I am convinced that in such schools, dignified citizens grow. But it is also time for the state to prove that it wants to engage in dialogue with such citizens.
