Description

Description

An old, heretical, and dangerous manuscript, capable of overturning centuries-old dogmas, is secretly kept in a women’s monastery in Florence. The queen assigns the Inquisitor to find it and bring it back. And who is more suitable for this mission? Naturally, it is the Executioner, the brilliant and eccentric hangman, a valuable yet unpredictable assistant to the Inquisitor.

Thus, our hero finds himself in Florence at the end of the 15th century—a city suffocating under the black robe of a fanatic monk, who has imposed a harsh theocratic regime. A young copyist, a former nun, undertakes to help him locate the manuscript, and then the story takes an unexpected turn.

Arkás intertwines historical figures and events in a fictional story filled with biting satire, dark humor, and wonderful illustrations, unfolding in the shadow of the Duomo, on the banks of the Arno, and in the Piazza della Signoria.

Review this product
  • Paper quality
  • Illustrations
  • Was it easy to read?
  • I would read a book by the same author
  • I would recommend it for reading
  • Was it interesting enough?
  • I liked the writing style
  • Someone is making a huge effort to keep the ratings of this series at high levels... repeated, identical reviews from different people (or the same ones?), about the paper quality, the quality of the humor, etc. etc.
Should I be concerned about what I am about to read??? (I have bought and am waiting for the books)

Edit 6/9/25: I have read all the books in the series. Disappointing writing, jokes below average, pointless rambling, as if they were written by someone else and not by Arkas. No relation to his old series. And I have read them all. I would not recommend buying this particular series.

  • Murderous humor, perfect design, and an Arkas from the good old days, tough, hilarious, sarcastic to the bone. Perfect!

  • After years, the good with spicy black humor Arkas returns. No relation to the last mediocre albums. Reminiscent of the prisoner era.
