Description

A lost Platonic manuscript comes to light through a mysterious text by Plethon. It is an unknown dialogue in which Socrates converses with his demon. For the Inquisitor, this is confirmation that the ancient world was the realm of the Devil and the manuscript is the proof he has been looking for.

He therefore sends the highly capable Berdougos to Ottoman-ruled Athens to find it and bring it to him. There, among ancient ruins, caves, monasteries, and minarets, Berdougos meets a clever streetwise kid who offers to help him—always, of course, for a price.

Arkás describes for us, with his biting humor, a confrontation between antiquity and the late Middle Ages, where philosophy becomes suspect, faith a tool, and the mind a troublemaker.

Review this product
  • Paper quality

  • Was it easy to read?
  • I would read a book by the same author
  • I would recommend it for reading
  • Was it interesting enough?
  • I liked the writing style
  • Someone is making a huge effort to keep the ratings of this series at high levels... repeated, identical reviews from different people (or the same ones?), about the paper quality, the quality of the humor, etc. etc.
Should I be concerned about what I am about to read??? (I have bought and am waiting for the books)

Edit 6/9/25: I have read all the books in the series. Disappointing writing, jokes below average, pointless rambling, as if they were written by someone else and not by Arkas. No relation to his old series. And I have read them all. I would not recommend buying this particular series.

  • Murderous humor, perfect design, and an Arkas from the good old days, tough, hilarious, sarcastic to the bone. Perfect!

  • After years, the good with spicy black humor Arkas returns. No relation to the last mediocre albums. Reminiscent of the prisoner era.
