The volume contains the views of Greek philosophers on love. After referencing religion and mythology, the focus is placed on the teachings about love from philosophers, spanning from the 6th century BC to the 5th century AD.

It follows with an appendix featuring the opinions of Byzantine philosophers. Additionally, it includes pages on betrothal, marriage, virginity, concubinage, adultery, prostitution, companionship, and pedagogical love.

The civilization of the Greeks, primarily 'erotic' in every sense (the love of bodies, souls, values, etc.), is 'compared' in the last chapter with the living cultures of the world today (Jewish, Chinese, Indian, Islamic, European, American) and their differences are highlighted.
