Description

Description

The fourth volume of the series "Archaeology" consists of the sections on Macedonia and Thrace, corresponding to larger or smaller parts of the ancient regions of the same name.

Following the methodology maintained in the volumes of the series, the main work examines Macedonia and Thrace by region, starting from Pindus and Olympus and ending in Evros. Introductory-synthetic texts for the two areas, supervisory maps, rich photographic documentation, and selected bibliography for each section complement the work.

Through a geophysical environment of rare diversity, the volume unfolds the journey of humanity in the space that bridges the East with the West and the Balkans with the Aegean. Thus, it offers the reader the opportunity to follow the historical and archaeological path of Macedonia and Thrace from the distant prehistory to the end of antiquity, marked by the triumph of Christianity.

The 85 authors of the work, directors of excavations and experienced researchers of the field and ancient sources, present the most significant archaeological findings of each area and reflect the conclusions of recent research, enriched with high-quality illustrations.

The result constitutes an updated and original contribution to the archaeological literature of Macedonia and Thrace.
