Reading the short stories of GP, the reader tends to believe that Literature can prevail over Criminology, Sociology, and ultimately politics, characteristics of the author.
Perhaps after many years of scientific writing, literature can offer that freedom of expression that a person with a successfully completed professional career needs to share the essence of their thoughts and experiences. After all, it is a common phenomenon for scientists—especially in the social sciences—to turn to literature when they feel they have completed their scientific contribution.
However, the case of GP is special. He chooses the noir detective short story to express the multiple experiences—bittersweet (?) from his journey in science and public service. The short story, therefore, serves as a pretext for opening a peculiar dialogue-monologue, where everyone involved decodes the messages in their own way. This is, after all, almost always the case with literary texts, and GP knows this well and handles it even better.
In stark contrast to the classic detective novel, the author does not attempt to pique the reader's interest regarding the identity of the murderer or the victim, but rather to describe situations with social and political tensions from the past or present. Generally, there lies a sarcastic tenderness towards both the perpetrators and the victims. Ultimately, the victim, through GP's unique writing, ends up being the reader themselves, whom he emotionally, politically, and criminologically involves.
