The Greek Society for General and Comparative Literature, wishing to contribute to a deeper and more comprehensive study of the narrative genre, organized in collaboration with the Department of Modern Greek Philology of the Department of Philology at the University of Athens, the first scientific conference in Greece on the short story entitled "The Short Story in Greek and Foreign Literatures. Theory - Writing - Reception" (Athens, December 8-11, 2005).
The presentations of this conference reveal that, in addition to the lively interest that has emerged regarding the birth and initial flourishing of the short story in our country during the 19th century, the attention of many researchers is now focused on its course and development in both the Greek and international spheres throughout the 20th century, as well as developments in the 21st century, along with more general theoretical issues related to this literary genre.
