This volume aims to serve as a modern and updated Guide for the interdisciplinary study of fairy tales, for those who "experience" it as researchers (educators, students) as well as for the broader reading audience.

Starting from the theoretical formulation that each genre of folk narrative constitutes a distinct ontological category that mediates between language, symbols, and reality (in the expression of the American folklorist Dan Ben-Amos), the fairy tale becomes a subject of study regarding the richness of its forms, adaptations, and meanings throughout its historical evolution in different societies, cultures, and means of dissemination.
